A few moments went by as he stayed in place, seemingly...stuck. Swallowing hard he cleared his throat and lifted both clawed hands so they were close to his nose. Crosseyed he looked to the white cloth she was holding up and made a 'keh' sound. Pulling away slightly he commented while flattening his ears. "It's only a bleedy nose ya know." Stating this as if she didn't see it herself, Inuyasha blinked, a bit surprised she'd helped him instead of started with the sits all of the sudden.

Kagome watched his nose carefully, and when the blood didn't start again, she stood up and walked to the sink, rinsing out the bloody cloth carefully. "Well, it's my responsibility, isn't it? I'm the one that hurt you, although it wasn't entirely undeserved..." Sighing, she dropped the washcloth into the sink and turned, a sheepish look on her face. "...I'm sorry..."

Giving a dumbfounded look at her apology, the hanyou gave a slight frown. Guilt bombarded him at her facial expression as well as her sheepish voice. A slight growl came from him then, his inner turmoil coming to a close with the next two words. "...*hmph*...me too." Saying this in an almost quiet tone, Inuyasha crossed his arms and sat on the floor with his eyes elsewhere.

Luckily, the wash cloth was in the sink as Kagome would certainly have dropped it. Her jaw fell as she stared at him, racking her brains for the last time Inuyasha had apologized. Had he EVER apologized? Maybe he'd hit more than his nose on that last sit. Walking back to him, she knelt down and felt his forehead. "Are you sick? Did you hit your head or something?"

Giving a wide eyed blink he noticed her meaning. Scowling outright again he lifted a fist and growled out, "Oi! Whats that's s'pose to mean?!"

"It means I don't think you've ever apologized to me once and I'm wondering what your motives are." Kagome smiled innocently. "Well. If your apology is heartfelt, then I accept it, but... there's still the promise that you'll never fight Kouga-kun again."

Suddenly feeling accused, he snapped back, "I didn't do ANYTHING! HE'S the one who shouldnt-a picked a fight with me! What am I spose ta do eh? KEH! Course its YOU who says to just roll on my back in defeat." Crossing his arms he closed his eyes. It seemed Kagome just didnt understand. "Feh, I had to say somethin or you'd never come back."

Kagome felt her blood boiling. 3...2...1. "WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?!" Standing up, she put her hands on her hips and glared down at him. Her eyes were dark with anger. "You are so infuriating! Why would you want me to come back anyway when all you do is pick fights with me and act like an idiot! At least Kouga-kun is romantic and honest about his feelings! You run off with a dead girl and LIE about it! I should have known you would never apologize!"

His eyes went wide with a kind of fear as she towered over him. Yet her words struck him like a pile of bricks to the head. "Wha-I-Kago-I did!" He tried recovering, his shock from her blowup still evident on his face. Standing as well he frowned yet stayed a good deal away from the firey miko. "What! Kouga?! Yo-you-I dont start fights! You-Kouga?! I-NO I DONT! I dont lie about anything, Kagome!" He desperatly tried to keep up, the whole Kikyou, Kouga issue seeming to rear its head everytime.

Taking a deep breath, she glowered at him. "Then look me in the eye, Inuyasha, and tell me honestly: When you run off with Kikyo, you do more than talk, don't you." She had followed him once, and she had seen him kiss her. It had almost destroyed her, and she had never gotten up the nerve to follow him again. She figured that if she didn't see it, she could pretend it didn't happen. But her imagination ran wild every time, and Inuyasha didn't help matters by acting so damn innocent about the whole thing. Falling to her knees again, she sat before him with a look of almost desperation on her face. "Tell me, Inuyasha." Tell me you don't love her...

Surprised being an understatment, Inuyasha was stuck with his mouth slightly open and his scowl being lifted. Kagome was demanding to be told? Yet...to be told what? His golden gaze darted to her eyes then to her mouth, his voice failing him. "...tell me honestly...you do more then talk, don't you."
She was expecting to hear something...something other then what he'd said before. Apparently his explinations in seeing the dead preistess wasn't good enough. Kagome...wanted him to say they did...things. Didn't she? He looked into her eyes harder, seeing that expectant look, just waiting...
Hardening his gaze he couldn't beleive it. He didn't want to. Shaking his head he gave a look of puzzled anger. In a low voice he kept that same level look with her. "...there's nothing else we can do Kagome." And that was the truth. The cold...dead...truth. Dead like their love, cold like the rejection Kikyou and he both had to face. The truth, that had dawned on them for some time.

A single tear glistened as it rolled down her cheek, leaving a shining path before falling onto her hand. Kagome made no move to brush it away. What a stupid girl she was, allowing herself to fall prey to her own childish insecurities. Hadn't Inuyasha proved them wrong time and again? She believed him now, and with that belief came a wrenching sadness for both Inuyasha and Kikyo. What must it feel like, to love someone so much and then have it ripped away? To see them, and know that you can never be together? How cruel...
This wasn't about Kouga anymore. This wasn't even truly about Kikyo. This was something else entirely, and they both felt it. "...I'm sorry..." Her words were a soft whisper with a double meaning. An apology for not trusting him, and also an apology for something she couldn't truly help. She could do nothing to bring Inuyasha and Kikyo together, and truly she was sorry for that. If it would make him happy... If it would make him truly happy, Kagome would gladly give her soul back to Kikyo.

It could never be, like Kikyo had said. And what the hanyou later on figured out, for that last chaste cold lipped kiss and calling of her name had truley set into veiw what had been severed 50 years ago. And it seemed only now, that Kagome was catching up.
Gold eyes followed the shining silver path down her flawless looking cheek until reaching her lightly swollen lips. Lingering there for a moment he could only think, 'Kagome, you'd never truley know...'
Turning his gaze downward so the snowy white of his hair shadowed his eyes he simply stated softly, "...don't be."
No matter what, decade after decade, Inuyasha realized that all he did was bring sorrow. Kagome's last tear being proof. Again...with the cold...dead...truth.

There was a shuffle of movement, and then Kagome's arms were around him, her face nestled in the crook of his neck as she sighed deeply. Pulling him close, she closed her eyes and tried to convey with her actions just how she felt; she always seemed to fail so miserably with words. Tilting her head up slightly, her lips grazed his cheek with all the pressure of a butterfly's wings. Normally she never would have dared to do something so bold, but this situation seemed to call for it.

Looking up enough to see her raven hair, the hanyou bit back the automatic reaction in pushing her away. Not for the fact he wasn't comfortable...but he realized, even if it took a good amount of time, that whoever he got close to suffered. And Kagome was no exeption. But despite his deepest desires in shifting, showing he didn't want her so close, the resistance crumbled with the slight touch of her lips; the hammer against the limestone.
Gasping silently, he almost refused to beleive she was hugging him. After what he'd said, that was the last thing he was expecting...acceptance. Of himself as well as his actions. Again his eyes were shadowed by the mass of his hair, but this time for a different reason. A clawed hand slid over her torso to her back, pressing her to him slightly. The opposite of what his mind was commanding. It looked as if even stubborn hanyou's needed a hug everyonce in a while...even if it was sly and lacked the emotion being poured out to them.
